I was just inspecting some things in my engine and I pulled the dist cap off and noticed that the contacts are burned and have black build up on them. It doesn't seem to be hindering the performance. The wire contacts are clean as a whistle and the plugs show the normal wear of a healthy engine (brownish tan stuff). So what's the deal with the dist cap? I'm running a Firepower ignition system with all the trimmings: coil, wires, cap, rotor all from performance distributors and the plugs are just cheap, run-of-the-mill and gapped out to .060.
