Exclamation Burning Smell Coming From AC Vent

today when i started my jeep at 1st my AC wouldnt come on and then for what ever reason it started working but it wasnt blowing as hard and i started to smell a burning smell coming from the far left vent. it almost smells like burning solder.

my thoughts are maybe the blower motor is going out. but i wanted some input before i go and spend 100$ on one.

i would just take my top off and cruise around but its like 103 degrees out and i dont want to go work drenched in sweat lol

it a 94 4.0, 5 speed if that matters any

Sounds like the ac clutch is seizing this just happened on my dodge ram. Watch it run it may engage for a bit and stop more frequently than normal.

i thought that too but i dont smell the burning smell from under the hood. only right under the dash on the driver side. around where the AC controls are.

okay well now my AC isnt coming on at all.

is there any relays or fuses that i should check before i replace my blower motor ?

also how hard is it to change the blower motor? i tried to take a look a few mins ago but its too dark to see anything that well.

The AC blower motor is on the left side behind the two control knobs.

Unscrew the 4 or 5 screws/bolts along the front and the AC unit falls off. The blower motor is held on with three small screws so you can take it out and test it.

In my opinion, it sounds like the A/C switch is gone. I had to replace mine when I got it as it was already dead, but I can imagine it would smell just like you describe as the switch is in the path of the air flow before it leaves that left vent.

...oops... older post... sorry
