Burnt Valve 2.5L

The sick thing about it is that yesterday I put up here that the little 4cyc was running strong with just over 100k mi on it and today, she up and quit. It started running funny and my girl pulled it over and babied it through the orchard to get it home. When we checked it out we discovered that the vavles were burnt.

So here's the down side of the story, this little 92 YJ is her daily driver and sole source of transportation. What would you suggest to do here? Keep in mind that she's going to be moving from rual WA to the Seattle/Metro area in a couple of weeks for school and my mechanical abilities are limited.

Now I'll turn it over to the WF community, what do you guys/gals think would be the best thing to do here?

well you could take the head to a machine shop have them do a valve job and see what happened and have them rebuild it. I have a old 2.5 with over 300k ok it. I would fix it if everything else is fine take the head off and fix it or take it somewhere to be fixed

I was thinking about that, but if the vavles are toast then how are the pistons and rings?

the valve train is completly seperate from the pistons and rings. valve are made of a much thinner metal. a little stronger but thinner and take alot of abuse. more than likly the pistons are ok. but you will be able to judge that for yourself with the head off

the head is pretty easy to get off and you can probably get a valve job done at a machine shop for ~100.

burned valves are usually the result of lugging the engine....not hard to do in the 4 banger

I can get you a running 4 cyl. for around two hundred I think. A motor swap would be faster than pulling the head off and having work done I think.
