Can i block the breather hose on front axle.

hello i have a 89 yj with the dana 30 in front with the 456and limited slip posi. the owner before me pulled out the breather thing for some reason, and i think it would be easier to just put a self tapper in it. can i get away with this. or should i get a tap set and put a threaded thing on it so i can connect a hose

It has to vent, you can't seal it off completely. As the gear oil in the differential heats up it builds pressure in the housing. If you seal it you will start loosing fluid from your axle and pinion seals. That pressure has to go somewhere.
