CB Questions.

Where does everyone have their CB?

What kind of CB do you run?

What style Antenna do you use?

Any advice you have for a a guy new to trail CB?

I'm familiar with the CB platform I've only ever used it for CB Tag with the boys around town and when I'm working on the farm out of vocal range.

I mounted mine below the radio. I use a $65 midland and a 102" whip mounted on the tire stop. Picks up really well. I'm getting ready to put in an amp. I'll let you know how much better it works afterwards.

I got a Radio Shack 40 channel CB with a 5 ft Marine antenna (also from RS) mounted on my tire stop as well. Works great ... definately get the Powerhorn for the PA option!

must be popular

Must be good place to mount the antenna. Have a whip mounted to the tire stop.

Have a run of the mill 40 channel mounted to the front of the center console. Mounted verticle so face plate is aimed up. Easy access.

Will probably put the SSB in it when I do the frame off.

I had a similar setup on a 79 Camaro...

Id do it to my YJ, but it would destroy my 2 12" subs.... and my ears....

Thinking about Uniden Pro510XL. Someone from a Jeep club is selling them for $25. Good reviews on Amazon. Why not?

I've got a used uniden 510 mounted above the rearview on a custom mount. El cheapo garage sale tunable 32" antenna mounted right on the 3rd brake light mount.

Tuned it and it works great for the trails. I have about $50 for the whole setup.

I say cb radios are rugged and inexpensive. a must have if you rally and off road. If you have the money export radios meant for offshore and def illegal in the states does offer more bang for the buck and lets face it, the increased wattage and channel selection is better from an emergency or survivalist standpoint. for the best antennae selection just check out whats at the local truck stop.. then go find a better price.

Uniden is a good radio......before you install it, take it to a CB shop and have them peak the power for you and after you install it be sure to set the SWR on the antenna....improper setting CAN burn up your radio....you can buy a simple meter from Radio Shack and do that part yourself....meter is like 15.00....that's why i use a tuneable tip antenna

^ I have the RS swr meter and it works good. I always tune on a middle channel and then tweak the upper and lower channels.

Yes you can!
I've been up in the hills when a A-hole with too much power seems to bleed through all channels making communication impossible. Dont get me wrong, I'm not saying you are. I've just had bad experience's with over modulation.
Sounds like you are respectfull of others when on the trail.
