Change in RPM at hwy speeds

Hey everyone I've been driving my 94 yj 2.5 manual for over a year now. Stock 205 tires on it - been averaging 21 mpg. What's interesting is I've noticed a decrease in RPMs while at about 65-70 mph , it's dropped from 3,000 to about 2,400... I drive the same hwy to work through the week. Anybody ever notice something similar to this? I don't know if it is relevant but I've been running synth Mobil one engine and gear oil throughout

More info: everything is stock on the jeep, just put in a new water pump and radiator hoses last year.

I would take a look at the tach, with your gears, 3000 at 70 sounds more like it.

Yea, you might be losing some connection or something. At 65-70 mph with stock tires I am at about 2800-3k rpms as well.

Sometimes the connections on the back of the gauges need to be cleaned. Try taking your cluster out and cleaning the back of it.

My speedometer didn't work before. I removed the cluster and the "wires" where bad. Ended up getting a new cluster. Have to do the same with the other gauges soon.
