Chassis wiring failing

After years of driving on dry lake beds, I fear that the alkaline dust is destroying my wiring. Losing turn signals and brakelights. Checked all of my relays, fuse boxes etc, but the problem seems to be coming from inside the steering column. Is it possible that the contacts on the switch have rusted over? I hear ticking on the right, even get the signal working at times, but the dashlight doesn't flash anymore, and the left side is dead deadity dead. Before I pull the steering column apart I wanted to see if anybody has had this problem before...
