Chatty Reverse?

So I am fairly green when it comes to transmissions and clutches. I have a 1994 YJ Sahara with the I6 5spd manual. Stock tranny and transfer case. When I reverse it works fine if I feather the clutch but if I let all the way out it will chatter and vibrate and smells like it's having a clutch bbq. Shifts fine in all the forward gears. It doesn't have a lift kit (yet) but it does have 33" tires. Any thoughts on why it's chattering when it's in full reverse?

My jeep does that too but it worked fine before the 33s were put on for me so u just need to figure out the clutch like mine you have to give it gas and clutch out but once the clutch starts to grab you have to give some more gas but I am use to doing that at this point....but anyway I just think its the bigger tires

If the clutch chatters or has a burnt smell one of two things are usually wrong.
1 the clutch in need of repair or replacement , could have a spring broken in the disk, bad throwout bearing , could have a problem with clutch slave or master cylinder. Could have a flywheel that was not resurfaced if a new clutch was installed.
2 if this is your first manual transmission you may be slipping the clutch too much ( not trying to be mean some people don't know how to drive a clutch at first). But I would more likely think it's in the clutch.

You are running 33's without a lift? I dont see that as being possible. They must rub like crazy!...

But the bigger rubber creates drag. I would bet its stock gearing is 3.07...and therefore your problem.

If you get it in a predicament where you have total traction as in a tire wedged in the rocks, and you try and power your way out, 1 of 2 things will happen...you will either leave your rear end parts scattered or your clutch will shatter( have had both happen to me before).

riding the clutch that hard causes it to glaze over. and when you let it all the way out, you are experiencing the slipping that is causing the clutch BBQ.

They're skinnier 33's. It only chattered really bad with a smell when I was in the sand and got my rr's a little high. Its far from my first manual transmission but I have no idea how old the clutch is and it does grab pretty far out it seemed like a realistic possibliity. However since I'm trying to get more involved on the forum I thought I'd see if it was something everyone delt with. It chatters but I think a new clutch will fix it. Thanks for the help!!

My bad, I thought they were 33". They're 31"x10.5"
