Check engine light at idle

Okay, I searched but didn't find anything. If I missed it, sorry for reposting.

My 95 YJ runs great. I can drive it all day, no problem. Except..... If I pull over and sit for a few minutes at idle (neutral & clutch out) the check engine light pops on. I can turn the jeep off and restart, no light. It takes probably 4 to 5 minutes for it to come on. Any ideas?

check your voltmeter. does it read low with check engine light and 13-14 volts when check engine light goes off? mine did the same thing. my alternator had dirty brushes and slip rings. have you done the code test yet?

I'll check the meter. As for the codes, I tried that, but as soon as I turn it off and back on, it clears up.

yeah, mine did that too. eventually i caught it and the code said my alternator field voltage was low. it was intermittant directly related to alternator outpit. watch the guage.
