Chevy V-8 Engine Swap In A 1989 YJ Help?

Hi, new here.
I'm sure you have covered this a bazillion times befor so direct me there if you wish...

My 89 YJ I-6 just gave up the ghost after recently putting in a new tranfer case of course! I'm finished with the stock power and want to do a Chevy V-8 350 swap. I will do all of it myself including building the 383. I'm not a major offroader or crawler or anything like that but do like to offroad occasioanly and really want the awesome power af a V-8 in such a light and small vehicle. Smog Cert. is not an issue. So who makes a reasonably priced V-8 kit for the YJ? Or, where can I buy just the parts I need one at a time at a reasonable price? I'll be adding headers at the time and I want to know what parts will work for the mild not too crazy offraoder doing this swap.
Thanks.

Man you're in for a major project.......Beyond motor and tranny you'l;l need to junk the axles and start all over. With gas headed north of $5 a gallon is this really the time to go to a big V8?

I just put a 350 in my yj. Still fixing the kinks. I got most of my parts from ebay and craigslist.

I bought the engine tranny and transfercase as a packaged deal. mine came with a 4L60E tranny. So I had to buy an ecm (ebay) to run the tbi and tranny. I got my wiring harness from howellefi.com

That peugeot is a no go with a V8 theyre not that strong at all. The ax15 would be a better choice your np231j will bolt up to it just fine. But youll need a gm bellhousing and a adapter from your choice of advance adapters or novak-adapt.com (personally I went with novak and have nothing but great things to say about them) Youll also need novaks slave cylinder as well. Check out there website they have a ton of information on there about the conversion. I have every single one of there parts to adapt a 350 and 700r4 into a yj and it was way to easy. Theyre customer service is excellent. I was a little confused when setting my pinion angle gave them a call and they walked me through it.

That trans is going to die pretty quick.

I don't know how deep your pockets are but a
NV4500 - Advanced Adapters
Atlas 2 Tcase - Advanced Adapters
350 - [You said your building this yourself] If buying a turn key Engine Factory

Advanced Adapters has weld in and bolt up kits for YJs for 350s. I have the weld in kit with a 350sbc in my 88 Wrangler. Plus these guys know there shit. Call them and they can tell you everything you might need.

Basically the Jeep driveline is not built to withstand the power of a V8, especially a built one. [Looks like your talking about building your 350 into a stroker]I have sheered my yoke bolts off 3 times. [yes not broken U Joint, sheered off the bolts that hold the strap on] With that said my axles have been holding up well for nearly 7 years. [Knock On Wood] With a stick shift however you wont be as lucky as I have been.

Trans and transfer case will set you back 4000 to 5500$s if you go with a good remane. If your handy with a welder you could find some Dana 44s and weld on the needed parts for your application.

Just some thoughts to help you look at what your getting into.
