Clutch gremlin

So here is one for the true techies. I just had the clutch replaced, and in doing so, having issues with getting it in gear 5-10 minutes after she gets running. New clutch kit, so it had new throw out, and pressure plate. Found a leak in the master, so that's new too. Still wouldn't fix the issues, and found that the check valve in the hose seemed to be sticking, so that's new too. Still having the same problem. Any ideas? Could it just be it needs to be bled out more? Something else?

It's a 1989 Sahara, 4.2, 6cyl, puegjot trans.

Thanks for any advice.

Did you bench bleed new master cylinder. Sounds like you still have air in the system.

Two things are a must in order for the clutch to allow smooth shifting into gear.
1. You have to depress the clutch pedal to the floor. I catch myself being lazy and it's hard to shift.
2. Can't have any air in the clutch slave line or the clutch doesn't fully disengage, acts the same as not fully depressing the clutch pedal.

My guess is your clutch slave isn't fully bled.

Did you change over to an external slave cylinder when you did clutch???? Those internal slaves are NOTORIOUS for leaking and showing no signs........

This is it. You have air. Just did a clutch kit and master on my 89 4.2 w/AX15Manually bleeding it isn't going to do it. You need a pressure bleeder. Do it forward and also do a reverse bleed. This system is prone to air pockets, poor design. That's why you're having a problem getting it into gear.

Thanks for the great advice - I'll give that a shot. Tried going forward, but will try going reverse as well. Nice to know that I'm not the only once who thinks the design isn't the best.
