Question clutch or tranny???

Hi... My first post here. 1995 YJ 4-cylinder manual trans. Either my clutch or tranny has gone out. Stopped at a light and let off clutch and no go!! Guy behind me said some smoke came out from underneath.

Jeep runs good and seems to shift normally but won't go. I can push the jeep when it's in gear engine off.

Can anyone tell me where to start to determine problem?

Thanks
Giff

if the engine is off and you can push it in any gear you got a bad trans. do you feel the gears engage when the engine is off?

yes... I can go thru all the gears engine on or off, feels and sounds normal to me. same with going into and out of 4wd.
when I push the jeep in gear and engine off shouldn't I hear the tranny turning?

never pulled a tranny yet. is it pretty straight forward.

with it in gear and engine off you shouldn't be able to push the jeep.
