Coil Conversion Opinions?

I just picked up a 91 YJ with the Pro Comp 5" Coil Conversion on it. Granted, I am going to sell it or part it out but was just wondering what you guys thought about it? Since I will eventually want to build my own Jeep out of the misc. ones I come across to part should I just hang on to this for myself? The frame has zero rust on it and in excellent shape. I looked up the kit and it goes for almost $1900 dollars. So I am thinking about keeping it for myself. If not what do you guys think it would be worth? The frame and suspension together? Thanks DJ

I have a business parting Jeeps. I would love to keep it but I wouldn't make any money if I did. I have it for sale as a whole right now but if I don't get any bites by this weekend I am going to tear it apart. I have four YJs that need to be parted right now. DJ

I run this kit I know everyone says its not a yj if it doesn't have leaf springs but I gotta say it rides so smooth and my kidneys sent me a thank you card after I had it installed the PO of my jeep did a home made lift with random parts from random vehicles and it was awful now I don't really feel much of the bumps when I'm offroad the flex is pretty impressive also

I am pretty set on buying the pro comp kit.

Can you send me some measurement of how high your body & skid plate are off the ground, also, what size tires are you running? What is done to steering? And are you running an SYE or a T-case drop, axle shims, and 1" motor mount lift?

Are you running a stock D35 or have you moved to an 8.8?

Stock 35 for now probably gonna do the super 35 not a popular choice here I know but I know people around me that have it and wheel them hard and have no troubles at all running 35 inch tires I have researched the super 35 and there aren't many who have done it saying its not worth the money but the ones who have it love it

I see. Well I am going to be doing a rear end swap, just not going to risk it.

I really would like to only do my lift kit once, and this seems like the best upgrade I've seen.

If I don't part them out I don't make any money. That Jeep is long gone. I ended up selling the entire suspension setup for 700. The guy got a hell of a deal.

Can you put a couple more pics of how the front & rear control arms bolt to the frame?

How old is your kit/how many miles do you have on it? Any issues?

A guy I wheel with bought a YJ with this kit already installed. He hates it. We both ran 37" MTR's in the snow and rocks. The snow packed in a lot more than with my spring over, causing more resistance.

In the rocks, (if you could call them that) he would pull a tire real easily. I would compare it to my old 4" Super lift. It may give a better ride on fire roads and light rocks, but performs pretty much the same as a cheap 4" lift kit. You can fit slightly bigger tires though, maybe.

Interesting YJ I saw down here in FL was a guy who made a custom 4-link long arm kit and went without springs and put on long travel air shocks. Here are the shocks he used: SWAY-A-WAY - axles, torsion bars, and shocks for trucks, cars, and off-road vehicles - Rock Crawling

Many other little goodies!
Swap to a 4BT diesel in the future? Most likely.

I remember when that kit came out and the many revisions it went through. I know several folks who tried it. All of them removed it shortly after install and testing it out.

IMO, I'd pass on it.

Here's some reading folks may wish to checkout: Pro-Comp 5" Coil Conversion Kit - thoughts?
