Digger thanks for the link but I have a carb setup not FI though his setup does give me some ideas I was not thinking of using the input from the hood was thinking of getting the air from behind the turn signals on both sides or the headlights or something like that.
Maybe even come from the sides of the front grill so as not to reduce air flow across radiator.

I bet you can retrofit the 91+ air cleaner. It bolts on to the drivers side fender and gets its air from under the headlight. Just need to fit the air tube to the top of the carb.
Thanks everyone for the pic's giving me some great ideas. I feel like there is more room and depth on the passenger side than the driver side fender well since the power steering pump and steering gear box are both on the driver side. I have the serpentine style belt because my Sahara came with power steering and AC compressor so one long belt rather than 2 v belts.
Need to go to the junk yard looking for TJ air boxes.
