College Student's YJ Budget Build

Now, since I've purchased my Wrangler I've been going against everything I've been doing for the past 6 years. My previous 3 vehicles have been cars and relatively quick. Instead of going low and going fast, now I'm going high and going anywhere. I've been pretty happy with the change.

Now on to the pictures, I'm in college so this might be a slower build.

2 days after I got it

I added some minor things right away

- Hella Lighting
- Cobra CB
- iVault Middle Console

Then I got the idea to replace the weak rear "bumpers" with a better one. I decided to make my own.

Drew it up on Autodesk Inventor and everything...

I purchased a Rugged Ridge front bumper and a set of 30x9.5 Goodyear MTR's on stock 15's.

This is how it looks today:

This past week, I changed out the softtop and half doors for a hardtop and full doors.

My plan is...

RC 4" lift will be ordered this week hopefully.

- New tires
- Refinish wheels
- Remount lower Hella's
- Hi Lift jack mount since I came across a jack for free
- Researching a locker setup

Any suggestions and comments are welcome. ENJOY

I just bought myself the exact same Jeep this past Monday, color and all. Let me know when you want to sell the tires. I live in VA, but am from OH and venture back regularly to visit friends.

Check out Aussie Lockers. I've had good experiences with them.

I'm gonna be following this build because I'm in the same boat. Just got an '87 and I'm still in college also so my build will be very slow also. Keep up the good work man.

I really like the look of those wheels and tires. Looks like they came off of an army truck. Looks mean.

already sold the top. i do still have the half doors, but they are stripped down since i'm using some of the internals from them on the full doors i bought.

Nice YJ

Great job on the bumper, personally would have used Solidworks as my platform to draw it up, but inventor is nice since you have the access at college.

What are your plans for engine upgrade? I noticed you are looking to put on a lift, if you're going with larger tires, I would recommend an engine swap.

Thanks. I'd probably regear before an engine upgrade. I'm going to stick with 31 10.50's for now which should work with the stock 4.10's. I'm already out of cash

4inch lift, new hardware, their performance steering stabilizer, 4 shock boots = $632

Nice man. Im in the same boat as you. College kid building up a YJ. That's a pretty good inventor drawing. You should have rendered it for extra internet points! lol Do you do drafting as a hobby or as a job? Im a CAD tech also.

Thanks. Just a hobby for me, I took a class in school for CAD/Autodesk. I had a lot of help from my dad to complete the drawing, so it's pretty much the extent of my work.
