compatibility?

So i am looking at replacing a couple things on the ol' jeep. Installed some new lights that are drawing a lot of power and something other Electrical things... So i know there are upgrade alternators from like a cherokee and a dakota etc etc.

Would the starter also be the same from these vehicles to my wrangler? 89 yj with the 2.5.

Is it possible to "relocate" the starter to somewhere easier to reach? Like somewhere on the top of the engine bay?

ok if the vehicle your getting the alternator and starter from have the same engine as the one you have they should work cause its the same engine. AND NO YOU CAN'T MOVE THE STARTER, IT HAS TO TURN THE FLYWHEEL TO CRANK THE ENGINE OVER. The flywheel is at the back of the engine infront of the transmission.

Make sure they are the same starters, there's minor differences between the years. As far as relocating it, sure, if you want to re-design half of the engine then go for it. It's already in a VERY easy to access location.

The alternator issue can be as simple as having bad connections on the alternator and the battery. Clean those then consider doing The Big 3 upgrade to get all of the power out of your alternator.

The alternator that i am getting is off of a 98 Cherokee ( 136 amp charge upgrade) i was wondering if the starter is the same on that engine. However, a new reman starter is only like $70, not to bad i think.

Xpress, the big 3 would be upgrade all the wires correct?

What gauge wire's should i look at getting? 2.5l engine. 136amp alternator.

find a good quality 4 ga wire for connections between alternator & battery, battery & starter, & battery & ground (on both firewall & block). If there's a local stereo shop close by, go check them out for good wire & connectors for it. Crimping 4 ga connectors is a little tough, so make sure you crimp them very well. Also put a little dielectrical grease on the ends of the wires and connectors to extend the life with less corrosion.
