confused about shackles

The shackle math doesn't make sense to me. Maybe I'm over thinkin it, but this is what I got: '91 YJ 4.0L Auto with 38k miles. This is a DD, may see some intermediate off roading, will not be on any hard core trails

Everything is bone stock except the 245/75/16 MT/R's I picked up for $400. (only rubs a little in the rear on the flares).

I just want an extra 1"-1.5", probably through a shackle lift. People say a 2" lift shackle will only give 1" of true lift, which I get.

the shackles I'm looking at are 6.25" bolt to bolt, advertised as a 1.5" lift. If the stock shackles at 4", then Southwest shackles are 2.25" longer. According to common knowledge, this would be 1.125" of lift. What happened to the 1.5"? Or is this just how it works?

Link is http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Super...spagenameZWDVW .

Anyone have experience with this shackle. Between a 1" and a 1.5" of true lift on a shackle, any reason not to go with the 1.5"?

They are simply allowing for people these days not being too bright. You did the math right. They just rounded up to a good sounding number!

Does a 1 1/8" lift seem to be unreasonable for a shackle lift?

Does anyone have anything bad to say about Southwest 4x4 Shackles? They look the part, but I'd like to hear from somone that has experience with them.

Do you know of someone that make 1" lift boom shackles for the rear?

They look pretty good to me. They are 1/4" steel, longer than you have now, and have greasable shackles. Should be everything you need.

If you go to the Southwest4X4 web site, they're selling them for $49 a pair. Set of 4 would be $98. Sometimes e-bay isn't a deal.

Thanks for the feedback. It's nice to know that other people who know more that you don't think your doing something dumb.

The same company has boom shackles with a .875" lift, think I might go with those. Are 1/4" plates thick enough, or should I look for 3/8"?

1/4" is a hell of a lot thicker than stock, you should be fine.
