Coolant Temp Sending Unit - older 4cyl block

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I just bought a 93 YJ last week (my first Jeep!). It is also the first car I have ever worked on.

Here's the deal:

It is a 2.5L 4cyl with a reman motor in it... an older block was used for the reman that does not have a spot for a coolant temperature sending unit. Therefore, the plug that would plug into that and then work the gauge in the dash doesn't plug into anything... any ideas for a workaround?

Previous owner had an external gauge running into the cabin from the coolant temperature sensor at the front of the block, but that was causing the ecu to throw a 17 code (obviously).

Any and all advice appreciated.

If all you want is a mount for an aftermarket gauge you COULD have a machine shop put a mount in your thermostat housing OR you could buy a housing with one in it already.

Aside from that, you could have someone drill out where the fitting is SUPPOSED to be.

The sending unit for the gage goes into the top of the cylinder head next to the valve cover on the drivers side.
The temp sensor for the computer goes into the thermostat housing. That is where it belongs so it would read the warmest coolant coming out of the engine. If it is still throwing codes for coolant temp make sure it has a 195 degree thermostat in it. If the CTS doesn't see 195 the computer wont go into closed loop and after a while it will throw a code.
