Crankcase Breather Element?!? Blowing Oil...

Here is my problem...

Engine is blowing oil. It ends up dripping down onto exhaust..burning off..and filling my cab through my unplugged drain holes.

I have isolated where the oil is blowing out, but have no idea what it is called or what options I have for fixing it.

In the pictures, I have it circled. I have read several posts on several forums, and can't really pin down what the heck this thing is, or how to fix it.

My uber awesome Haynes manual doesn't address this part. And I have been unable to locate is on the major auto parts websites (including JC Whitney and Morris 4X4).

If anyone knows:

1. What is this part and where do I get it?

2. Is there some other work around here...maybe an air filter or something here?

The hose that comes out of this part goes to my air filter and now it has oil sitting in the bottom of it and the filter itself is oily.

Oil pressure seems to be fine otherwise and the jeep runs fine (for an 87 jeep)....so I am totally at a loss here.

I have a:

1987 YJ
2.5L 4 cyclinder

Look here. Ignore the dialog so much, but look at the pictures. PCV MOD. Kinda cool.

Write-up: Oil in air Filter 2.5L - JeepForum.com

That tiny filter cost's around $15.00 bucks at your local "speed shop." It comes in Yellow, Blue, and Red.

I'll give that a try...

At this point, I'm willing to try anything.

Also, on that thread, there was a link to another thread of mods, and someone had built there own filter.... gonna check that out as well.

I'm just hoping my problem is with some loose grommets or clogged pcv system...and not rings or something.

I'll find out later today.

Thanks for the link to the thread.

Another thread...

In case someone else has this question in the future, I just found this thread:

http://www.wranglerforum.com/f8/chao...ter-52871.html

Although it's not a charcoal filter, it has 4 hair fiber disks inside of it and one metal fiber disk in it.

On this link, someone posted a diagram from somewhere that has the actual part name.

If you don't want to upgrade the original grommet is available at jeep4x4center.com Part # 33001237. It's a $1.99.

I'm open to upgrading, what does that entail?

If this "breather" isn't seated securely, will my Jeep pass emissions?

Oh, and I found the hose that is suppose to connect the breather to the air filter was completely missing :-O So I gotta replace that too...

Learning so much!!! :-D

Thank you for this. I have an 89 YJ 2.5 & this same valve plug thing is not sealed. Previous owner tried to glue it or something. Oil everywhere but I think it is the PVC gasket needing to be replaced too.

Crank Case Breather or Crankcase Depression Regulator Valve?

I was searching for more info on a Crankcase Depression Regulator Valve (or CDR valve) for my old 6.5l turbo diesel. I don't know if this is the same part you were talking about, but according to SSdiesel it is a CDR valve. Here is the link to the product page on their site with a brief description of it;
