Cyclops brake light not connected

It's a 94 2.5L
A friend told me my top brake light wasn't working. After obvious troubleshooting, I removed the spare tire and found the wires coiled and tied off. They have connectors on the end, but for the life of me I can not find where or what they connect to.
I have not taken the lens off the brake light to see if there may be some sort of pig tail in there.
I'm thinking...just remove the light all together at this point.
Any suggestions?

Smile rear raised brake light

on the inside of your tailgate, just above the lower hinge, there is a cover. open it up and look inside. connectors should be there. have fun and keep on jeepin'.

Nope Chief, no cover in the tailgate. And there is no wires running to the tailgate either. But it has to be in that area somewhere.
Not a big deal but don't want to give Joe Bagadonuts, the local lawman, a reason to pull me over either. Not that I'm doing anything wrong mind you.

No wonder I couldn't find it...they hid it in plain sight.
Thanks for your help Mike, I appreciate you running out and taking a look.
BTW, I had to Google "starboard"!
Seabees get issued boots with a "R" and a "L" on the toe so we don't put them on wrong. :>

Thats how I broke my pathfinder, I saw the drift told my lilbro to hold my MD and shifted gears and hit the gas.... broke the fan, the grill, the lower control arm, the spring perch, Mind you it wasnt all snow as I found out the hard way. I sold that and now have a YJ

I actually ran into a guy, that I was stationed with over in Guam, back here in Michigan. I had my snout in the trough at a buffet and he walked through with his family. We talked, I gave him my number, haven't heard from him since. Too bad, he was always funny and made me blow snot bubbles.
Still no cyclops brake light. It's been so cold here, every time I try working on her my fingers turn black and curl up.
BREAKING NEWS...I found a hard top and full doors for $450. I'm just waiting impatiently for the guy to call me back and tell me he still has it.

Yeah, why would you get pulled over for the third brake light not working. It isn't required. As long as your 2 main are working you are ok.

Actually...taking it off was my first choice. But it's been so dang cold here working on her is pure torture.
I wasn't really worried about getting stopped, I have nothing to hide, all my guns are registered and I have a CCW.
The bottom line is, it just bugs me when something doesn't work the way it should. It will sit in the back of my brain housing group and fester until I do something about it.
And I like stirring up conversations in Jeep forums.
Maybe therapy is in order.

do you (87YJWRANGLER) actually think that a SEABEE would have a friend? Especially one who knows how to run a heater.
