Dana 35, Axle Shaft bearing, seals question.

I'm running an 87YJ, 4.2, 5-speed with the Dana 35-non C-Clip axle. A few days ago, the rear wheels quit turning. Upon inspection, discovered the bearings and seals on the right rear axle shaft were busted up. The only thing left of the bearings was the inner ring attached to the shaft (Still don't know where the bearings are, drained the differential just to be sure).

Anyway, I have a question about putting it back together. Right inside the axle flange there's something like a ring, about 1/16 in thick, 1/2 in wide. Is this supposed to be there, or is it the outer ring of the bearings?

Further in, there is a another ring, this one is like a thin washer that has an inner diameter about the same as the diameter of the actual axle shaft. Again, is this supposed to be there, or is it part of the inner seal.

These pics show what I'm talking about.

Thanks for any help!!
