Dana 35 Questions

I pulled the rear cover and this is what I saw

There are no shavings in the case and no marks on the back side of the oinion.

I marked the carier with marking paint and checked for clearance and the pinion isnt gitting the carrier. Are they made this way or did this carrier have an issue in the past?
No noises at all out of the rear I just went in there to change the rear end grease.
Also the ring gear is stamped "14283 D35-411 D9 "
Am I to assume this is a 4:11 gear set?

That is definitly not normal! Looks like at some point there was a pinion bearing failure. If everything was repaired correctly, you shouldn't have any more problems. From the looks of it, the carrier damage is superficial. If everything is within tolerences, I wouldn't worry about it. I would just keep an eye on it. I always give the joints/yokes a good check for movement at every oil change and after any heavy wheeling.

I actually had to replace the yoke because of another problem, backlash seems to be OK. No marks on the rear of the pinion or anywhere else in the rear. Does anyone know if this is a 4.11 gear set?

Your profile says you have a 2.5l so I would think it is 4.11. If you really want to know and still have the cover off divide the teeth on the ring gear by the number of teeth on the pinion and you will get your gear ratio.
