Dana 44 axle swap

I have a 1991 yj with the 2.5, 5 speed, found a set of dana 44s for sale on craigslist and was interested in them. i was wondering what i would have to do to swap these in?

Here is the post...

"I have a matching pair of axles out of a scout forsale, they are both dana 44s with 373 gears. i did move the spring perches to fit in a wrangler yj. they are with complete from end to end, and come with a set of 35inch tires and aluminum rims. the bolt pattern is same as a f150 5x5.5 i think. 200 OBO want them gone. Possible Trades Welcome. Let me know what you got."

Let me know if its a good deal, seems like a steal to me!

You would need a new transfer case as the scout front has a passenger side drop.

^^ that is a very good price, and the scout width is ideal. But the tcase is the only downside.

So just another quick question. Thanks for all the input so far. If I just wanted to replace the rear axle with the 44, would I just need a new drive shaft?

You wouldn't need a new driveshaft, just a different rear u-joint. The stock u-joint is a 1310, and the 44 runs a 1330. You can get what's called a bastard u-joint from most auto parts stores that is 1310 on one side of the cross and 1330 on the other.

It depends on where you get the 44 from if you get it out of an Isuzu like I did you have to get a new drive shaft as well as yoke.
