Did I blow my auto trans in my inline 6

hello i was driving down the road today going up a steep hill on the road. While i was going down the hill and came to a light, when i hit the breaks the truck started smokeing from trans fluid comeing from somewhere and going onto the exhaust. I kept driving and went to a couple more lights when i realized my automatic trans will not shift into 1st gear. I can feel it try to go to 1st but it doesnt. and with second gear it shifts at 50mph instead of 40mph. what is wrong any ideas??

I believe when i change my neutral safety switch i could of put to much fluids in.
I was thinking that the truck was shifting SUPER smooth where i dont feel the 1st gear b/c the truck still accelerates the same

Sounds to me like you have some major problems occurring, better find out where all the trans fluid is puking out of. BTW I wouldn't recommend driving it anymore.

How could you possibly over fill the trans by that much? A little I could see, but by the sounds of it you've gone way past a little. If your not worried about it then why post a question in the first place?

I am worried about it, im just trying to figure out if its possible to only loose first gear and the trans would still hold up??? or what would cause me to loose first gear. I change neutral safety switch so i lost a bit of fluid and i was already a litter low so i put a full quart in

Now the transmission randomly stopped leaking and is shifting perfect again. I was going to change the fluid and stuff but its working and im scared to touch it. Anyone know what could have happened??

When you overfill a transmission you can cause the ATF to foam it will also escape through the vent. If the ATF becomes foamy it won't transfer power from the engine to the wheels. I don't think you can suck the fluid into the vacuum shift system, if this auto uses that, but if it were possible it sounds like you might have.
