diesel swap

im thinking of doing a diesel swap. well more like im dying to do one and i can get a full truck with a 7.3 in it for 1000. can you fit this motor and tranny into a jeep without cutting it to pieces?

Most likely no. Unless you have unlimited money and alot of fab skills/time.

About the biggest diesel that will fit would be a 3.9l 4BT

The engine would weigh as much as the Jeep!! Not to mention if you did get it in it would twist the drivetrain in half when you put it in gear!! If you want a diesel conversion look for the Cummins 4BT. It is a popular conversion.

that was pretty much what i figured. i was reading around on a diesel swap site and they said that bread vans have them most of the time. they also said they knew of a company that sells just the engine and trannys from them. would anybody know of that company or one like it. i cant seem to find it.

Diesel, Anyone....

...head to Europe. you can get a new Wrangler w/diesel power.

I have a 4BT/NV4500 setting in my garage, but now I'm not sure. It's awful heavy. Looking into the new jeeps with diesels. Like this;

11 Grand Cherokee 3.0L Diesel Engine W/ Transmission | eBay

Food for thought in the diesel swap catagories.

Look at a VW 1.9L TDI motor.. 50lbs lighter than the jeep 2.5l, and makes more power than the jeep 4l.. all while getting 40mpg..

Hi,
I'm a newbie for sure.... so go easy on me.
If you were to swap for the VW diesel, dot you need the computer(ECM?) to run it? What kind of running gear goes behind it? (tranny/t/c etc)
My education continuessssssssssssssssssss.........

With the price of diesel being $.80 to $.90 more a gallon than gas why do it?

Ugh diesels are torquey and make a lot of low end power.. they're made to boost and last many miles.. if u went with a TDI you'd get 35-40 mpg.. so if ur going to swap why not?

Does anyone actually get 40mpg with a TDI? I have one in a VW and I get about 42, in an aerodynamic car. I'm not so sure I'd get quite that much in a brick.

Your TDI must suck because I have one and it averages 54 mpg but in all fairness where i live its all highway.
