Differential questions

So im still trying to figure out all the modifications the po did to my jeep. I was looking at the axles and differentials and I believe the are the stock diffs. 35c rear and 30 front. Is the stock rear a 35c or just 35? I also noticed that the rear diff had been resealed and the front doesnt look to have been. So I beleive that means that it isnt regeared because the front would have to be done also right? Which leads me to believe that the rear is maybe locked? I have no experience with locking diffs. How do I know for sure if it is? And how do I lock and unlock it? Sorry for all the questions. Pretty knew to the 4x4 scene and trying to get into it much more. Thanks in advance

I don't know a whole lot about locking diffs but.. If it's been welded you will notice it if you turn in a tight circle the back tires will skip, if your on or off the gas.

First off try scrapping any crude off the diff, there should be numbers on there. By resealing I think your talking aboot the RTV between diff and the cover. This is very common, most people use it instead of a gasket, cause it tends to seal better. It could be a number of reason why it was done in the rear. PO could have changed fluid, replace something broken, defeated, or just inspection. Is there any wires, cables, air lines comming out of the diff? If not then no selectable locker installed. To check for auto locker, jack up the rear so both tires off the ground. Spin one tire by hand in the foward direction. If oppsite tire spines backwards no locker installed. If the opsite tire spins in the same direction you got either spool, auto locker, or Lincon locker (welded spider gears)

And as far as re-gearing goes, both the front and rear must be done right?

Yes the both need to match, some sets might be off a tiny bit. Like the 4.09/4.10 combo. This info is stamped on the ring gear.
