I know this sounds like a stupid question, but I just ordered a header, and I'm really hoping I don't already have one. I bought my Jeep with everything on it already, and nothing was ever mentioned about a header. I don't know what stock equipment looks like on these things. This a stock 4.0 manifold?
Does the Wrangler come stock with a cast-type manifold, or a tubular header like that? How big are the stock primary tubes? I can measure that tube with a caliper at lunch tomorrow.
X2 looks like a header to me from the top cause of the round tube.
However... if you look under your rig into the engine compartment there will be about 4 "tubes" coming down into one going into the exhaust pipe, thats a header... if not then you have a manifold, but pretty sure that's a header system.
An eBay header, not sure of the brand. Thought it would be better than stock, not realizing I don't have stock. I kinda screwed up on this one...Really shoulda checked if I wasn't SURE about what I have. Ya live and ya learn. We'll just see when it gets here the size of everything and how it compares. Maybe its a lot better quality.
To me that looks like the factory header. I bought my jeep completely stock and my header looked like that (round). Just to let you know, changing the header out on a 4.0l is not going to give you much gain in horsepower. A buddy of mine did that and did not see any change.
I'm not so much looking for power as a good sound, and less restriction. Thanks for the partially good news, making me feel like 35% less of an idiot than I did. Is there a sure-fire way to know what I have?
Damn that makes me feel a lot better. Thats sad how sure some people were its a header. Well the actual one arrived in the mail today right as I was getting home from work, so its goin on this weekend. I need the fuel line clip disconnector things, right? Any other particular tools most people might not have? Thanks guys
Thats deff. the factory manifold. Let me know the sound you get because Im gonna get one off ebay for the same reason. Less restriction and good sound.
That's definately a factory tube exhaust manifold...and prone to cracking in the lower flange area.
I got a great deal on a header on E-bay. The install wasn't all that difficult and I noticed a BIG difference in available torque (that's with the "butt dyno"...I have yet to run it on a REAL dyno...probably never will).
My header install came out of need...my factory junk cracked right where it did on my buddy's rig. Up next? A Dynomax cat-back system. I hope to get some nice rumble out of my old 6 popper.
