Shouldnt be a problem....Just dont stick your fingers in there. You may notice the engine might run slightly warmer. Nothing to be worried about though.

The shroud for a 2.5 is like 15 inches long. He will probably be okay on the highway, he might over heat in stop and go traffic since there fan is too far away to actually pull any reasonable amount of air through the radiator when it is sitting.

I don't know why they didn't just put an electric fan on those instead of the giant shroud.

I've run my 2.5L without the fan shroud for over a year now without any problems... Just keep an eye on your temp gauge and it'll be fine....

keeping it cool

I have a 93 w/2.5 and I tossed my fan shroud and fan in the trash(sold at a swap meet). I have never had an over heating problem. I replaced them both with a Flex-a-lite Wrangler X-Treme electric fan. Jeep/AMC Electric Fans . No over heating at and idle, rock crawling or slow trail riding. Hope this helps your friend out. Might even be cheaper than buying a new shroud.

That picture is exactly why I wonder why Jeep didn't go electric in the first place. That engine is way back from the radiator. you could almost store a spare in there.

I don't need to jump over low riders, I just crawl over them nice and slow. So they get a good look at my swampers. LOL
