Does anyone know if an ECM from a 1991 will work in a 1995?

My ECM is apparently a refurbished ECM and there is no number on the actual ECM. There is a number on the harness that connects to it, but I am not sure if it the actual ECM number. My question is will a 1991 4 cyl manual transmission ECM work in my 1995 4 cylinder manual?

might work, but OBD 1 vs OBD 2 might come into play depending on what years they switched that over, which of course I can't recall, sorry.

Thanks. I don't think cars or trucks were equipped with obd2 until 1996 (split year for obd 1&2) and 1997 (all obd2). So that shouldn't be a problem.

if ALL options are exactly the same it would work. But I remember when I replaced mine they needed my VIN to program it to.

ALL 1996 vehicles are required to be OBD2.
SOME heavy duty vehicles are exempt.
Motorhomes where the chassis was built in 95, but the body finished are registered as 96, but are required to meet 95 standards.

there was no split, some manufacturers dropped the ball, which is wny some vehicles were still OBD1 in 1996 (ford trucks did this on some models up until 2001!). have exemptions, at the factory level.

Read the under-hood emissions decal, that is the GOD sticker.... if its built after 96, but is OBD1, it is required to say it on that sticker, this is a Federal requirement, not a Cali one.

No. The '95 speedo gets a signal from the VSS (through the PCM), the '91 has a VSS but also has a cable for the speedo. Check any online parts places and you'll see they don't cross over.
