E Brake Problem 8.8 Install

I ordered the install kit from East Coast Gear Supply. Installed the emergency brake cables and the passenger side seems to be too long. On the floor it measures correctly against the receipt 64.75". I checked the install on both sides and everything is right so I think. Here are a couple of pics of the problem. Both sides at the axle and where both meet to be pulled.

Let me know what you think and if anyone bought a set of cables somewhere else and they worked let me know.

Pic#1 drivers side at the axle
Pic#2 passenger side at axle
Pic#3 adjuster and cable length

The cable on the right is the passenger side cable.

Wow. That looks way off! It looks like the actual cable is too long.

I called ECGS and talked to tech support spoke with Kevin. He put me on hold came back and said yeah that is a problem. We make for a lot of applications. Send me some info and pics I will call soon. So that is where I stand right now waiting on a solution.

With a manual trans its useless on the trail with out working e-brakes. We will see what they say but if someone has found parts somewhere else that work I am open to jumping on it.

My e brake kit from ECGS is at home in the box. It looks like I need to open it up and measure!

Please post back with the resolution

89quest it is a desert Jeep that doesn't get the slat treatment like back east. I have spent a lot of hours getting rid of what rust there was. I have spent a lot of time and effort to preserve my piece of Jeep History.

If you really want to just get your Brakes working, try one of these, just install it at the correct spot to even out your cable.

Buy Dorman - Help Cable Stops - 1/8 In. Maximum Wire Diameter 03339 at Advance Auto Parts

I plan on just doing this:

Thanks it looks like that could be the solution if ECGS doesn't come up with something.

I would suggest calling a jeep dealer with your VIN for a recall. There were many recalls on e brake on yjs. Wouldn't hurt, mine had an open recall and I got it replaced.

That won't work for a ford 8.8 axle

My recall was closed a long time ago.

I am working a problem specific to parts from ECGS for a Ford rear differential. Thanks

No solution from ECGS but did get return authorization number for refund just ship it back. So looks like the cable stop fix is coming Thanks to 2xs.

It was explained to me they make this cable set in four lengths to fit a variety of applications and they had no quick fix.

Thanks for all the inputs.

Finish bleeding brakes and front end alignment, some odds and ends back on the road today!!!

On the passenger side cable 1" shorter so I will cut it and use the cable stop on that one. The drivers side is OK.

I used the factory yj e-brake cables, looped it around the e-brake tab on my 8.8 and clamped the cables together. Hasn't failed yet.
