Early YJ ('86-'91) Dash Bulb Replacement?

Before everyone tells me to use the forum search, trust me, I did.

I am going to pull the gauges in my '88 to clean the contacts and circuit board to see if I can get some non-bouncy needles. While I'm in there, I figured I should replace the bulbs since half of them are dead anyway.

I've found a literal sh*t-ton of articles on replacing dash lights with LEDs (which I will be doing), but most of them center around the later YJs and TJs (backlit gauges). I've see people say that you need more bulbs (and multiple types) for the early YJs (side-lit gauges), but not one list anywhere. When I pull up some of the "bulb guides" online for my year, they list the types of bulbs needed (1445, 194, and 74) but not the quantities of each that I'll need and/or where they all go.

So... Can anyone help me out? I want to replace them all at once if I can.

Well, I would assume that my 87 is the same as your 88, and the answer to your question would be a 194 for an incandescent bulb, or a T10 if you are going to an LED.

I switched all of my gauge bulbs to LED. If you do, the T10's are polar specific, meaning although a 194 will fit in either way and still light, a T10 will not. It only works correctly 1 way.

Oh, and the amount is 11 in the dash if you are doing the gauge cluster in the center as well as the tach and speedo.

Taken from : L.E.D. Dash Lights Write-Up - Page 2 - JeepForum.com

I have an 90 YJ and I am in the process on ripping the dash apart to do my lights also. I have the gauge cluster with the retarded clock in the center.
The bulb count for the 90 YJ is:

Gauge Cluster: #194 bulb (x6)
Speedo #194 (x2)
Tach #194 (x2)
HVAC #194 (x1)
TOTAL #194 bulbs = 11

There is also 7 #74 bulbs used for the following indicators:
Left turn signal
Right turn signal
High Beam
4WD
Emergency Brake
Hazard Light
as well as one to the right of the steering wheel behind the dash to light up your switches
TOTAL #74 bulbs = 7

LOL np Funny thing about internet, you have to use just the right words for the results you're looking for

It's interesting how you can type LED Dash Replacement and get different results than Dash LED Replacement....

what's wrong with the clock?! I never reset mine at time change, therefore its always "summertime" in the old jeep!
