ECU location?

Hello all:

I am doing some wiring clean up today in my 87' and i noticed under- neath the passanger side dash is what appears to be a ECU, in a Carburated motor what would the ECU actually do? The Carb was replaced with a Webber unit. TIA

This is a fun learning experience... Ian

as long as u have the nutter bypass u can disconnect it and rip out all of those wires. thats what i did. But the computer controls all the emissions stuff and the slight adjustments made to the motor autmaticaly

Nutter bypass is where the ignition module under the antifreeze jug is wired directly to the distributor and the distributor is set to 8degree timing with vacum advance unplugged but ports capped to keep from having a vacum leak. Before bypass the module is wired to the ECM then goes out to the distributor and if you have an after market carb then it's a good idea to wire up the module to distributor directly cause the computer will mess with the ignition timing cause it's already getting wrong readings cause of the aftermarket carb. This process is very easy to do. search the sticky forums and there is a great wright up on it. Or google it and you find it aswell.

You won't be sorry you did it!!!!!!!!!!!!

yup, If u get an isolated ignition it makes it even easier. I had the butter bypass but i ripped all of it out since i no longer needed it. You take one of the wires from the ECM on drivers side firewall and run it directly to the distributer and then another wires goes to another place dont remember perfect
