Electric fans

Hello,
Does anyone on here have any experience on replacing the engine driven fan with an electric type? I have the 4cyl and I am hoping to reduce my parasidic loads. The clutch is always on and it needs replacing now anyways.

you aren't gonna notice much no matter what you do to the 4 banger, i'd gear it and thats it.

the electric fans are fine though, but don't do what some people do and just wire it to a switch, the switch gets left on, which it shouldn't be on all the time. the engine is designed to operate around 210 degrees, or it gets forgotten and does damage.

it takes time to dial in a thermostatic switch, but i'd say put one in, don't just do the manual switch.

i've done it on some trucks but i had the fans laying around out of other vehicles, so i wired in the fans for almost free. if its gonna cost a few hundred bux i'd just put a new fan clutch in it. just me though.

I was just at quadratec looking at one. It's $300 though. I've got 4.10 gears in it. This was the best investment so far. I would certainly have it on a switch. I've installed tons of block heaters with switches on industrial equipment, they work well. I am sure if I looked hard enough I could make somehting work form Napa. I would have an automatic and a manual switch. My fan is always on and the jeep appears to be running cool. I am thinking the clutch is stuck and ideas on how to check it for sure.

if the clutch was stuck you'd know, you'd have low power, it would be loud, and the fan would be spinning hard and fast all the time. when you shut the jeep off the fan should spin maybe twice, too many turns is weak. if it stops right away its sticking.

but if you're concerned about low engine temp then the first place to look is thermostat, then coolant strength. might as well replace the t stat and flush the coolant at the same time.

I noticed a difference with a electric fan on my 2.5.
this is what I installed. It is just a good Idea to wire it with a HOA (hand, off auto.)control so when you get into water you can shut it down.

this kit comes with all you need incl. a thermostatic switch. i have it and it works fine without any problems.

Jeep/AMC Electric Fans

for a 4cyl w/o A/C the cheaper #475 fan is enough.
