Engine identification???

Is there a code or something on the engine that will help me identify it so that I know if it was the engine that came in this respective year (89). I'm pretty sure it is, but I want to be certain so that i can order the right parts when I need them.

Thank you... that's cool. I was able to use this to identify an old 60's model CJ I have. This is only good for ID'ing the vehicle VIN though right? I'm trying to verify what year 2.5L 4 cyclinder is under the hood. I don't see any place on the engine that has a code or something that will help with this.
