Engine knock

I've got a problem. The problem is that there is a knock coming from the engine. I thought it may have been the engine fans clutch, but i was wrong, so after replacing that the noises coming from the engine bay has become quieter. I think that it is probably the water pump because it has a slighty wobble when the engine is running. But is also sounds like the clunk could be coming from the top of the engine block. Any idea on how to fix the problem?

like i said. try lucas oil and see if it shuts up, my engine knocks, its all good has 104k on it, hell i hear some jeeps come from the factory with knock. could be valves, lifters, cam bearings, crank bearings... check your oil pressure every now and again, and keep up with oil!!!!!!!!!!!!

wow, sorry bout me kinda disappearing from this thread, but tomorrow the plan is to replace the water pump to see if that will solve the problem. My sister is hoping cause she who drives it. We haven't tried higher octane yet. But if the water pump isn't the problem then we'll try that. And maybe i'll start checking my own threads more often:banghead: but thanks for the input. i'll keep you posted. And someone asked how many miles: 110,000ish

Actually the cheapest fix would be to remove the belts and start the engine to see if the engine knocks. If it does it's in the engine. If it doesen't then it's in one of the components(such as pump)that are driven by the belt.THen go from there.

so we got the new water pump and radiator in, and, well, it is still making the noise. At leas t the engine seems to run a little stronger :) but one of my sister's friends is a mechanic and says that it is possibly a bearing in the engine  he says not to drive it :( but we are going to go try to get the noise to go away by putting in premium. Beyond that idk. Someone sayed that they work pretty close to me and could listen to it to try and figure it out, i think it was Dave? i'll keep you updated

so, we think we have final pin pointed the problem. idk about the 4.0 liter but on the 4.2 liter there are 2 pulleys attached to the crank. The front pulley is fine and the belt goes from it, to the water pump, to the A/C. The second pulley behind the first is very wobbly and goes to the water pump and power steering...which has be a problem lately too...to we aren't even going to try to fix this on our own and its going in for an estimate tomorrow:(
