Engine not shutting down

1987 YJ - no computer. Ignition switch does not shut the engine off. When I turn the key from run to off all other electrical components turn off (radio, electric fan, etc..) but the engine itself just keeps running. The switch itself was replaced about 3 months ago. Since it does seem to cut power everywhere but to the engine I'm at a bit of a loss as I would think if the switch was bad that it wouldn't cut off power to anything.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

trace wires if you know how...sounds like maybe a short in the switch that allows current to flow to the computer, but that would be a wild guess...somehow its getting current to the components that keep your engine alive...maybe a shorted wire giving constant 12v to the computer.

i would start by replacing the switch. if that doesnt fix it you have a really weird wiring issue
Its a Jeep thing...

That happened to me when my computer shorted out. Replaced fusible links and resoldered the circuit board in the ecu. It caused the ignition to always be hot. Had to wire in a kill switch till I could replace the ecu.

+1 I went through this two weeks ago with a buddy of mine. We replaced a bad ignition switch and the replacement switch was worse than the one we took out. I'd check it to be sure.
