how much do u guys think is fair for an engine rebuild from vlave cover to oil pan on a 91 jeep 4 cyl? got quoted $1400 for parts and labor including installing the new sending unit in the tank. just curious what you guys thought and if this seemed inline with what someone else has paid. i guess it is due for a good rebuild its got well over 100,000 miles on it not sure exactly but im thinking 175,000 miles.
ive tried finding a decent one used seems like everyone wants an arm and a leg for one worst ive heard so far is $900 for a motor with 100,000 miles on it i like nope you can keep it and hold out for donald trump if im paying more then 2 or maybe 3 for a used motor it better be verry low mileage. way i see it if i gotta pay price like 900 i might as well spend the extra few 100 bucks for the rebuild and have everything new. i do find it wierd i can get a 4.0 cheaper then i can find a 4 cyl but id kinda like the 4 cyl myself.
that price includes pulling and installation of the motor the complete rebuild with parts and labor and the labor for installing the new sending unit and fuel pump. i thought about one of those motors from parts stores but when i was looking for a truck motor a few years back i was told by a good # of people those motors are junk and to stay away from them. they will give ya another motor if it goes bad but ya still gotta pay for labor putting it in and out. so i taking there advice there.
Since they are doing all of the work it is probably a decent price. The motor may need bored and honed, possibly some new internal parts. I hope they factored all this in and will not try to upcharge for this stuff later.
nope they didnt figure in boreing out the block and guess what mine needs it so price going up to $2000 and ill have a motor that is bored out .030 new valves pistons and rings,cam, i believe new rods and im sure he told me the crank has to be turned as well not 100% on the rods and crank ill get to talk to him more in person tommorow. i do know that they havta have the block done to fit bigger cam berrings as the cam wore through the old bearings and into the block a bit. i guess the cam was able to move back and forth 3/4 inch while it was still bolted in and this caused it to wear through the bearings. i also know the head was shaved as they found it was warped and there was a broken valve on the # cyl so i got all new valves. man for all that was found wrong with it the damn thing sure ran good started out looking to replace the head gasket as we noticed it was blown looking for a gass leak around the motor. seems this thing just gets worse and worse and just keeps on piling up on me seems like i cant catch a break sence thanksgiving lol. oh well gotta get better sooner or later right? thanks fort all the replys and more i think about it it doesnt seem to be such a bad deal after all i guess but i certainly wasnt expecting to spend this $ on my jeep. looks like motor and such for the vette will havta wait a lil longer at least when its all said and done i should be able to get plenty of miles on my jeep without motor trouble i hope anyways.
