engine swap??

I have a 90 wrangler with a carter carb; the engine has only a short life span left in it. We also (my wife drives a 98 saraha and a 89 wrangler in the garage) have a 96 cherokee sport. Because i dont want to part with my 90, is it possible to swap the cherokee engine into the 90 wrangler? I won't be doing it-i know my limitations-but my mechanic will (he is an ex Jeep mechanic). I should probably ask him, and at some point will; but he does this on the side and whenever i call him its always (good naturedly!) "what broke on that piece of **** now?!" and he'll be sure to tell me to instead buy a gas savy four banger. But if it is possible, what else do i need to know as far as additional costs go. the cherokee is mechanicly sound-its just not a wrangler!
thanks for any insight

it is possibel, yjwrangler just did this exact conversion. it is gonna be expensive to pay someone, there is modifications, you have to cut, move and weld the motor mounts forward.

you'd be better off doing it yourself, and if you can't, buy a 4.0 wrangler. i think he spent over 2 grand doing it himself, buying a used driveline was a big expense though. a mechanic would be stupid to do it for less than a $1,500 labor, on the side. removing xj driveline no problem. installing driveline, and wiring into wrangler, more work.
