engine swap questions

I have a 87 yj with the 2.5 engine.

I am not much of a mechanic allthough i can manage my way thru the smaller stuff.

my question is what other parts go along with a engine swap other than the engine?

do i have to replace the tranny and axles?

If i do this i would be paying someone else to do the work and i just want an ideal of what i would be asking them to do.

I am thinking my best bet would be to sell this jeep and buy another with the engine that i want.

Do what you just said sell the jeep you have and get one with the 4.0 with manual or automatic which ever is your preference. (if you wheel it id go with an auto manual is a pain in the but constantly on and off the clutch)

Chevy 350 swap in a YJ 1989

Hi, new here.
My 89 YJ I-6 just gave up the ghost after recently putting in a new tranfer case of course! I'm finished with the stock power and want to do a V-8 350 swap. I will do all of it myself including building the 383. I'm not a major offroader or crawler or anything like that but do like to offroad occasioanly and really want the awesome power af a V-8 in such a light and small vehicle. So who makes a reasonably priced V-8 kit for the YJ? Or where can I buy just the parts I need one at a time at a reasonable price? I'll be adding headers at the time and I want to know what parts will work for the mild not to crazy offraoder doing this swap.

Try Novak conversions, they have all sorts of adapters and if you give them a call they can probably help you out without any questions

This is good advice. I had a 89 2.5L, after 2 AX5s Broken I put a NV4500 and atlas 2 Tcase in it. I could cruise well in 5 gear 65ish after that however it would have been smarter to sell it and spend that 5gs for the conversion on a 6 cylinder.

In the end I parted the 89 out, put the transmission, and tcase in storage and bought a 88 6cyl. which now has a 350 sbc.

Yeah - Its a Jeep thing. What can I say!
