Exhaust issues

Ive got an 88 with the 258, 5 speed. The PO removed the cat converter and I assume several other emission components. Currently, im trying to adjust my weber carb around the removed emission components, with very little success. Is there any way to bypass that stuff (emission system) or should i just look at a new exhaust system, basically going back to stock. As of now, my YJ runs like a three legged dog.

I would go back to stock. Does you state like not have emissions laws? Most states that's illegal and won't pass inspection

I have never had a weber but I sure have read about a lot of people having problems with them..I have had carters, holleys and motorcrafts and they work fine without all that crap

I dont know too much about tuning carbs i've only ever worked on my friend's 72 f150, but I would assume that tuning it for less back pressure might make it run better than stock.
That said if the cat had an O2 sensor if could be destroying ur performance to try to control your emissions (Im not familiar with jeeps older than 92). Other than that give more info about how it runs (is there an overly gassy smell?, any strange noises?, idle rpm?, trouble starting? are you at a excessively low/high altitude?) Im sure there are other people on this forum who are running same set up with no cat try searching around for others with an 88 and ask them
