Fluid change and brakes!
My '92 has 123k miles on it. Bought it from the original owner.
I drained the AX5 today, and the "stuff" that came out looked green/brown. It smelled like gear oil, but that was about it!
Anyway, I filled it up w/Redline MT90.
My ebrake hasn't been working well, so I took it to Brake Team today, and they replaced the shoes and hardware as well as turned my drums. Ebrake works, and my stopping ability is waaaaay better! Shoes were way gone!
Earlier when I drained my tranny, I attempted to do the same to the TC, but didn't have a 30mm socket. The tech at BT was super cool, and helped me out.
He drained the transfer case and filled it with the Redline high temp ATF that I had with me. The old ATF looked and smelled okay.
Both diffs were topped off.
While he was doing the brakes, the tech noticed that my rear has been gone through by Superior Gear and Axle company, according to the stickers on the axle ends. Besides verifying that I have a locker, he showed me that I have slop/movement in my rear end. The axles can be pulled in and out about a 1/4" or so, and they can rotate forward/backward before "engaging" the diff. Not sure if that makes sense....
Anyway, he admitted he doesn't know much about rears, but told me to get it checked out.
So, what's up with my rear, and what think 'ye about my fluid stuff?
