folding down the windshield...

This is problem a dumb question just to give you guys a warning. But I want to fold down my windshield tomorrow along with taking the top and doors off and i have never done it before. So if i fold it down will i have to replace the cowl gasket? What would you use to tie it down to the hood so that it wont move? And if i like folding it down ill be doing it all summer so could i take the bars that connect to my windshield off and keep them off? just run around with the back of the cage?

Yes it is a good idea to replace the gasket if it is more then a few years old .
I welded a nut to top inside of the windshield frame and a small eye bolt to the hood
that i use for the small piece of cable to make sure the windshield stays down at 70..lol ( maybe over kill but i leave mine down a lot here in texas.
and take the roll bar extensions off even if you just ride around the block with it folded down or you will look like a idiot..lol

Perfect timing!

I just did that today (BTW its freaking awesome to drive around with) My cowl was fine for being 21 yrs old and didn't need to be replaced, I left the front part of the roll bar off (I just swapped mine out for the family style so they weren't on in the first place) and used a ratchet strap to hold the window down

i have drove around with the windshield up without the extension bars and had no problems.
but they are supposed to help in a roll over so just don't roll over and you should be fine.

That depends on whether or not your hard top directly attaches to them, if it does (like mine) then you'll need them installed when putting the hard top on. If not then you can leave them off, (i learned today that the windshield holds most of the weight, since when you fold the windshield down and pull down on the cross bars they bend
