I am getting ready to start a frame off restoration of an 88 YJ and I'm swapping the 4.2 to a 4.0. The frame is beyond repair so I'm swapping it with a frame from a 93 that was made for a 2.5. The question I'm pondering is, are the engine mounts (the welded piece attached to the frame) for a 2.5 and 4.0/4.2 the same just needing to be relocated or, if not does anyone know where to get new mounts to weld to the frame. I looked at autorust, not sure where else to look.
Any thoughts are appreciated and if anyone is needing a 4.2 I have 3 of them.
The are not in the same location, so they will definitely have to be relocated. I'm not certain about if they are identical in construction though, that's a good question maybe someone else will chime in.
You should carefully cut and reuse the 4.0l mounts from your existing frame,if possible. The passenger side mount is definitely different between the 2.5 and 4.0. And they are in different locations on the frame, as mentioned above.
You ca n buy those factory mounts anymore. Your options are to reuse, make something or try to use a universal set
I was hopin there was a retrofit but "modify" seems to be this projects middle name. I wanted to keep the old frame intact just in case there was someone who could use it when I'm done pullin all the parts off.
Thanks a lot for the replies!
