Front Axle question....engaged?

Hey Gang,

Don't think my CAD is working, if I put it in 4hi or 4lo, engine running at idle, if I lift the front wheel, and spin it, would it or would it not spin the front drive shaft?

I don't think my CAD is working...so I may just disassemble it and lock it in the engaged position....vehicle is not a daily driver, mostly trails and light 4wd roads when needed....

thoughts?

I have read articles where people have built their own cable actuator to replace the vaccuum motor. I haven't done it yet, but it is something to look in to.

Posi-lock. Its the way to go. I have one on my jeep. It replaces the vacuum actuator with a cable based one. While you are at it you can replace the fork as well. Throw the lever into 4 wheel, pull the cable and boom. You are locked and ready to go. I used it for the first time when we had an ice and snow storm hit us last week.

can't you all just put a solid one section axle shaft in there and avoid the whole vacum cable thing all together?

That is of course another option. I believe there is a kit available for this that provides another bearing for support. I may have seen that in 4wheel drive hardware.

if you're lifting one tire, that doesnt necc mean the CAD is not working. the spider gears would take the turn. with the jeep in 2wd, grab the driveshaft and try to turn it. if it turns, the CAD is disengaged. if it doesnt, the cad is engaged. do it in 2wd with all tires on the ground.

i built my own posilock for ~$20. i use the hell out of it b/c i am spooled in the fornt so i lock and unlock it constantly when im wheeling.
