Front driveshaft freeplay

I have a 90 YJ and while greasing it and checking fluids I was hand twisting and shaking the driveshafts to check the u-joints for wear. I noticed that the front driveshaft seemed to have quite a bit of freeplay in it. Is this normal or is it an indication that the differential is or transfer case chain is wearing out? Sorry if this is a stupid question but its my first jeep and first chain drive for me.
