Fuel fuel fuel fuel....

1993 Wrangler S 4-cylinder, manual transmission.

OK, so here's my issue. The ol' beast isn't getting fuel. As long as I'm tapping the gas pedal continuously, it'll run, but really roughly.

Now, on that note, I want to check the grounds. Where are the grounds located. I want to check them all, but I don't want to miss one. If anyone's got the time, I'd ask you to provide pics of locations.

Beyond that, I am looking up pumps, and I always get results with either screw or clip terminals. Is there a way to figure out which it is without dropping the tank?

Can't be of help with the grounds on the 4 cylinder, however I'd like to add that the fuel filter could also be a culprit.

1990 Wrangler 4.2L

Same thing happend with me . Turned out to be the fuel pump.

Iirc, one of the grounds is I the ebrake pedal bracket.

Imo, start at the fuel rail and trace back to where you lose fuel pressure. Injectors, pressure regulator, filter, then pump

So.... For those interested....

The hose between the pump and sending unit was not submersible hose. This was the beginning of the problems.

Beyond that, there was nearly an inch and a half of deflection in the bottom of the fuel tank. This was probably due to the skid plate being dented.

So, here's what I think happened: The dent had been there for the whole life of the Jeep. I had thought nothing of it. But, when some dude hit my rear tire at a gas station, it may have shaken things up just enough to cause problems. It probably closed off (or nearly so) the fuel return port in the tank. As the hose had softened considerably anyway, the additional pressure from a close or reduced return line created enough pressure to cause the hose to fragment. Which is exactly what it did. Also, there were metal fragments in a couple of the gaskets on the fuel pump, along with what looked to be small fibers. So, if it wasn't dead, it was well on it's way.

So, I replaced the pump and hammered out the denting in the skid plate. I'm just hoping the hose that came with the pump is submersible fuel hose. Otherwise I'll be doing this in another six months again. And that would make me unhappy.
