fuel problem?? or electrical

Hi just got my first jeep yj n its one of my favorite toys right now its my daily driver its got the 2.5 n im having some starting/idling issues i have to pump the pedal to start n morning n after it sits its really aggrivating n it will idle down real low like it wants to die and i smell fuel while driving quite often ive cleaned egr n tb i just dont want to start throwin parts at it n any help would be appreciated thanks

Mine has been doing this too. 95 with 81000 original miles. My starter just blew up on me a few weeks back so this one is brand new and its starting to need some gas to get going again. Also idles low sometimes, and I smell what I think is gas, but i was warned about a potential oil leak so that could be the smell too.

Pull the codes, there can be a faulty sensor but not turn the CEL on.

O yea im sorry its an 88 n the fuel smell is sometimes stronger.. Cant tell if its raw fuel or just a rich mixture?

And as for codes i assume its obd1 ?? Sry kinda new to the jeep thing lol i had a car one time i had to count blink codes n then look em up

Probably not I'm pretty sure 88's are carburetor and don't have a computer.

Ya your right its carburated the egr valve was dirty n i cleaned everything real good

Yours could be the idle control valve. if your is the 4 l six cylinder.
