I just replaced mine. I cut the decking and made and access door. Here's the link I used: Template for '91 & newer tank sending unit access door - JeepForum.com
I did it and I'm glad I did.

Is yours the fuel injected version with the fuel pump inside the gas tanks? If so dropping the gas tank is fairly simple. You need to remove the torx screws around the fill nozzle, then loosen the two hose clamps where the filler hose connect to the tank, and remove the filler hose.

If there is any gas in the tank, you can now siphon it out.

Use a Jack with some support board, ( I used a 2X4) and bring it up to support the gas tank.

There are 7 bolts along the front and back of the tank, remove them and lower the jack and gas tank. There is a lid on top the tank that unscrews and you have access to your fuel pump.

When you put everything back together make sure you dont pinch the fuel line, or you get to do it all again.
