fuel pump issue

i went to unload my jeep off the trailer tonight after wheeling this weekend, and it fired up, then immediately died. cranked and nothing. i cant hear the fuel pump run when i turn the key on. itll start on ether or gas down the tbi. i find no power on any of the three wires at the fuel tank. i think orange w black stripe is power but not sure.

i also removed both fuel lines from the tb and turned key on and cranked but got nuthin. does no 12v at the tank indicative of a failed relay or ecu? is there anyway i can hotwire the fuel pump?

i checked fuses and it all looks good, but the previous owner did a serious hack job on the motor, complete with no fuse panel under the hood

i kind of suspect a burned/vibrated wire since it ran fine all weekend but im not sure.

had this problem

ok here is something you can try ?? grab afriend or someone capable of cranking the ingition.. then grab a hammer and hit the bottom of the gas tank right in the middle as you are hitting the tank fairly hard tell the person to crank it over as you are hotting the tank ... i did this to mine and it started but it wont get you to far so have someone follow you if you are stuck on the road .. if it starts its your fuel pump .. i changed mine after this worked and no problem since.

Or your fuel pump relay is MUCH more likely. If the ECU were bad, you'd be in deep dookie. Replace it (usually under $20 from Autozone) and listen for sound. If not, check your wiring. The ECU is the LAST item on the list of things to check- Mark W.

Don't drop your gas tank without testing the fuel pump relay or the inertia switch first. Could be a bad connection only and I would hate to see you spend all the time and money on a pump

hitting the tank or replacing the pump will do nothing if no power is there.

i'd also check to see if spark and/or injector pulse is missing. signs of crank sensor, or ecu.

hopefully its just a relay.

unless you took some helli-horrible tumble ovr the week end, im inclined to say relay...if you were chest deep in mud...maybe your ecu (sux cuz i just gave one away for free.) i just dont see it being crank sensor...again unless your were really gettin' some ovr yer wheelin' weekend. and especially since you prob drove it onto the trailer just fine. and yes the orange/black is powr to the pump. tan is the sender, and the third is ground (cant remember color).

funny this thread should come back up. i pulled the tank today. the fuel strainer disintegrated and sent its shrapnel into the pump. i picked up a new strainer but ran out of daylight.

after i posted the original thread, i did more testing and had good juice to the pump. the battery had died and was causing all sorts of weird stuff, one of them being no juice to the pump.

ill update this and let yall know wat happens when i throw it in there.
