Fuel sender and Fuel gauge wiring - no fuel

I had a problem with my fuel gauge reading full. I checked the wiring at the rear driver side. Looked like the previous owner reversed the black/yellow and the Tan/black. I rewired them and solved that issue. Now the fuel gauge works. Problem is now the engine is not getting fuel... i swapped them back to original.. now it has fuel and no fuel gauge.

I know I'm missing something simple. But i can't figure it out. The wires are extremely faded and i don't want to drop the tank to see if its crossed anywhere else.

Per the manual: Injectors working/Fuel gauge not
C -Orange to Injectors
B -Tan/Black - to fuel gauge
A -Black/Yellow - ?? ground i assume.

Fuel gauge working/injectors not
C- orange stays the same
B- Tan/Black - ground
A- Black/Yellow - fuel gauge

You may have to drop the tank, I had my fuel pump go out on my 90 2.5L. I wasn't getting any fuel to the tbi.

The fuel pump must be fine its running right now with the wires hooked up as i found them. I hooked up the wires in every possible combination, but none would activate the fuel gauge and the fuel pump at the same time.

I'm getting 5-6volts from the middle wire with the key in the on position, the other two nothing. I assume the fuel pump only gets power when the engine is running. I'm leaning towards a poor ground.. just not sure where to find it.
